ADULT DICKENS CHRISTMAS CHOIR
Fancy a proper festive sing-along, guv’nor?
Join British singer/songwriter Laura Saggers and her jolly good team of first-rate voice teachers at the Laura Jean Music Academy for a spiffing, no-pressure Christmas choir experience.
We’ll be warbling beloved Dickens-style carols with all the gusto of a Victorian street urchin on market day; perfect for all levels, from shower crooners to seasoned belters.
Our rehearsals are all about music and connection. You’ll meet smashing locals, sip on steaming hot apple cider (none of that lukewarm nonsense), share a good old chortle, and bask in the heart-warming glow of community spirit. For those feeling a touch of the ol’ holiday generosity, we’ll be performing at Ciela Senior Living Home in the Palisades on December 7th to spread cheer to residents affected by the fires.
Singing isn’t just a bit of fun, it’s downright marvellous for the noggin. Music has a magical knack for unlocking treasured memories, lifting one’s spirits, and tickling the brain in all the right ways. It’s like a warm cuppa for the soul.
Here, there’s no judgment or funny looks, and certainly no shaming; just a merry band of singers having a jolly old time. Whether you’re a confident songbird or convinced you sound like a cat in a rain barrel, you’ll be warmly welcomed and gently coaxed into joining the chorus.

FAQ's
What Are the Minimum Requirements to Join the Choir?
You don't need previous choir experience or the ability to read music. We simply ask that you:

Be able to match pitch (sing a note accurately when you hear it).

Practice the songs at home between rehearsals using our provided practice tracks.

Arrive each week prepared, having learned the assigned material so the choir can continue making progress together.

A positive attitude, reliability, and a love of singing are the most important qualities!
Do I Have to Attend Every Rehearsal?
No! If you need to miss one or two rehearsals, that's absolutely fine. We simply ask that you let us know in advance (or as soon as possible if it's an emergency) and use our practice tracks to learn the music at home so you can stay up to date. We do however, have requirements for attendance if you intend on performing.
Do I Have to Perform?
No. All performances are completely optional. You're welcome to join the choir simply for the enjoyment of singing, learning new music, and being part of the community. If you do choose to perform, you must attend the two most recent rehearsals leading up to the performance. This is a standard attendance policy across all LJMA performance programs.

Do I Need to Provide My Own Performance Outfit?
Yes. If you choose to perform, you will be responsible for providing your own performance attire.

Will the Music Be Difficult?
Not at all! Christmas carols are known for their simple, memorable melodies and beautiful repeating harmonies. Most arrangements are easy to learn, making them suitable for singers of all experience levels.
