Camp description:
Ages 8-16
LJMA's Voice Intensive Performance Camp is a 2-week vocal camp specializing in harmony singing, beatboxing, and solo voice performance. Training culminates in a 30-minute featured performance at Universal Studios on the City Walk stage!
Our camp is split into three training groups: Group 1, 2, and 3. All new campers are placed at the Group 2 level by default, but can opt to move down at sign up and can easily be moved up or down depending on the level of difficulty they choose to submit their harmony videos, as well as the work ethic shown during camp.
Training is vigorous. Homework is set each day, and campers are expected to practice after camp each night to prepare for the following day. Campers learn how to sing or beatbox like Pentatonix and Pitch Perfect. This camp is performed to backing tracks, requires performers to learn a lot of choreography, and is aimed at performers with strong vocal ability and experience.
GROUP 1
-
Eligible for duets, must prepare and submit 4 songs
GROUP 2
-
Eligible for solos, must prepare and submit 6 songs
GROUP 3
-
Eligible for solos and mic harmony privilege, must prepare and submit 8 songs
Regardless of how many songs each student gets to sing on, all campers will be on stage for the full set and will learn choreography for the entire show. Learning to sing and dance at the same time while harmonizing, blending, using correct mic technique, and performing a full 30-minute set is EXTREMELY ADVANCED. Most campers come to us with experience in one or two of the listed criteria above and find their first year a struggle, but return each year to increase their skills and push themselves to be the best they can be, and find the training is a complete game changer for all vocalists.

Rehearsal info:
-
Campers are expected to arrive with all required materials memorized and learned on the first day of camp.
-
All campers will be required to send in videos ahead of time proving they know all the harmonies/beatboxing to the songs required at camp. If they are unable to complete this, they will be moved down to Group 1.
-
Blend, harmony accuracy, vocal warm-ups, solo work, stage performance, vocal health, and dance choreography will be worked on during camp.
-
Two intense weeks are spent preparing a 30-minute show to be performed on the big stage.
-
Class is taught by industry professionals to ensure a high-quality performance is produced.
-
Campers are expected to practice when they get home and be ready for the following day.
-
After sign-up is completed, campers will be sent a Dropbox folder by June 1st with all the practice materials required for the camp.
EXTRA HELP:
-
If campers are new to harmonizing or struggle to learn harmonies on their own, we highly recommend signing up for private voice lessons over the summer or joining our new Beginner Harmony Camps. These camps are 5 days in length and 3 hours long, with two camp sessions offered per day/week. Each camp session will learn different songs and is designed to teach the harmonies for our upcoming show, but also offer an introduction to harmony singing for new singers.
For more information, see Beginner Harmony Camp
COLOR WAR MONDAY
-
On the first Monday, we meet at the local park where obstacle races, team-building games, and activities are set out to grow the group as a team, build friendships, and make lifelong memories. This allows campers to instantly create bonds with each other and turn up the next day, no longer nervous and ready to rehearse. Campers are split up into teams to work together for points, and the winning team is treated to boba at the end of the day.
-
Campers are required to wear casual clothes on Mondays that can get messy. Face paint will be applied, and campers are likely to get wet and dirty. After Mondays, we transition into hardcore rehearsals for the rest of the week.
FINAL PERFORMANCE show info:
-
All Campers meet in the morning at Universal Studios for sound check and dress rehearsal.
-
After the performance, everyone is welcome to go off and enjoy the park on their own or in small groups. LJMA staff are no longer responsible for campers after the completion of the performance.
