HOW TO REGISTER AS A NEW STUDENT
Step 1.
Step 2.
(Not required for summer lessons)
INTERVIEWS NOT REQUIRED FOR SUMMER LESSONS
In the summer, we do not require students to sign up for strict weekly lessons but offer lesson packets in groups of 4, 8 or 12 to accommodate new students as well as vacations for our current students. We therefore do not require interviews for students wishing to study with LJMA during the summer. However, for those wanting to continue studying in the fall, interviews will be required with all students and parents before being accepted into our fall semester.
WHY DO I NEED TO INTERVIEW?
Most students who study at LJMA commit to ongoing training for over a decade, reaching a professional level of ability by the time they graduate, regardless of whether they choose to continue to pursue music at the college level.

To ensure every student is fully prepared for the academy’s demands, an interview with the director is required as part of the admissions process.

This meeting allows us to assess the student’s understanding of the commitment, discipline, and effort necessary to progress and succeed. It also provides an opportunity to connect personally with the student, gaining insight into their character, personality, and work ethic.

In addition, the interview ensures that both students and their parents or guardians clearly understand the academy’s expectations and workload. Parental support is essential to student success at LJMA. If a family is not ready to actively engage in the student’s development, the academy may not be the right fit at this time.
I am an adult, DO I still need to be interviewed?
All prospective students at LJMA—including adults—are required to participate in an interview with the director before being accepted.
This interview ensures that adult students fully understand the level of commitment, discipline, and consistency required to benefit from our program. While adult students may have more flexible schedules and varied goals, our standards of instruction remain the same. We expect every student to come prepared, remain dedicated, and actively participate in their own development—regardless of age or experience level.

The interview also allows us to understand the adult student’s musical background, goals, and availability, and to determine whether LJMA’s structure and philosophy are the right fit. This conversation helps us tailor the learning experience to meet their needs while maintaining the integrity and rigor of the academy's approach.
